The international intermodal transportation road-rail was introduced in Slovenia in 1974 when the first rolling motorway trains Ljubljana – Cologne and Ljubljana – Munich started operating. Nowadays, a well-developed European train network for transporting containers, trailers, swap bodies and trucks connects the main industrial hubs across Europe. The main supporting hubs are its terminals in Slovenia.
Combined transport connects various transport systems, therefore the transport of dangerous goods needs to comply with all rules that apply to the modes of transport used (IMDG Code, RID, ADR, ADN and IATA DG).
When a container unit from a vessel (IMDG Code) continues the journey with continental means of transportation, markings on the unit can stay unchanged in certain cases. The following text should be added in the transport file: "Transport according 1.1.4.2.1 RID/ADR".
